The working group of NTUA belongs to the research team of the Unit of Environmental Science and Technology (UEST). The Unit is an educational and research unit at the School of Chemical Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens. UEST provides environmental management inputs for the development and implementation of national strategies and action plans. In particular, the areas of expertise of UEST include:

- integrated management of wastewater

-integrated management of municipal solid waste

-prevention and control of environmental pollution

-management schemes for the integrated management of special types of solid waste (packaging, batteries, end-of-life vehicles, used tires, waste electrical and electronic equipment, used oils etc) at local and national level

-energy analysis of industrial processes

-simulation of environmental and chemical systems

In addition, research has been done in the evaluation of environmental impacts from waste generation, eco-design of various products, development of software tools for site allocation of waste management facilities, renewable energy systems, clean technology development, Life-Cycle analysis etc.
